Vlakfontein murder suspect a Zim national, not related to the family

Two men arrested at the weekend in connection with the Vlakfontein murder appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on Monday

The pair was arrested at the border between Mpumalanga and Limpopo and the other in Dobsonville, Soweto.

They are accused of murdering seven people, four children and three women from the same family, who were discovered buried under a heap of sand at their home a week ago.

EWN reporter Bonga Dlulane says their names have been released and are Ernest Mabaso and Fifita Khupe.

According to Dlulane, Mabaso is facing seven counts of premeditated murder, three counts of rape and one count of theft. Khupe is facing several counts of murder and theft.

Only one suspect, Fifita Khupe has applied for bail which the court will decide on Monday. Mabaso will not be applying for bail as he said that he fears for his life at the hands of the community.

The NPA came out saying he is a Zimbabwean national and there is no way that he is related to the Khoza family.

It also came out that the second suspect Fifita Khupe might also be a Mozambican national but he has been here since 1969.
