Capetonians get crash course on how to grow dagga at first cannabis workshop

Dagga enthusiasts gathered over the weekend to attend Cape Town's first cannabis growing workshops.

Tickets to the inaugural event were sold out in two days.

Interest in learning how to grow cannabis is high, following the Constitutional Court ruling that decriminalised the private use and cultivation of dagga earlier this year.

The speakers discussed the basics of growing cannabis organically, soil culture and how to cultivate the seeds.

Event organiser at Cannabis Grow Workshop, Grant Taylor, says a range of people from different backgrounds and professions attended the event.

He says not all of the attendees smoke dagga recreationally, with may interested only in the medicinal use.

He says he's committed to educating people on the complexity of the plant-growing process, despite the sale of cannabis seeds still being illegal.

Taylor foresees a series of courses on growing the plant in the near future.

We had about 50 people pitching [up] to our workshop yesterday.
