Benni McCarthy bags his UEFA Pro Coaching Licence

In 2015, while an assistant coach at the Belgian club St Truiden, Benni McCarthy told BBC Africa that his biggest ambition was to manage an English Premier League club.

And the day has come for Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy who has now become one of the most qualified coaches in South Africa after obtaining his UEFA Pro Coaching Licence.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, McCarthy says it was essential that when you coach the high calibre of players you are also qualified, something he witnessed when he played in the English Premier League.

To be able to deal with these kinds of personalities in big teams, so I just thought it was only right that I do go and educate myself because as a player it is one thing, but as a coach is a completely different level.
