[LISTEN] A look at Gordhan’s explosive submission to the Zondo Commission

In the written submission Minister Pravin Gordhan details executive appointments, campaigns of harassment and intimidation.

While Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan is expected to testify at the state capture commission next week, details of his submission to justice Raymond Zondo have been leaked.

The submission which has been described as an explosive document, looks into executive appointments and dismissals, persecution and campaigns of harassment and intimidation, major public procurement projects as well as commandeering and neutralizing key state law enforcement agencies.

Political Commentator, author and host of his own show here on 702 & Cape Talk, Eusebius McKaiser joined Karima Brown on her show to unpack the submission.

In it, Gordhan reveals that he has subpoenaed by Public Protector Bisiswe Mkhwebane in connection with an investigation into the early retirement package offered to former SA Revenue Service (Sars) deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay in 2010 - a case withdrawn by former National ProesecutingAuthority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams in 2016.

In the submission, the minister says he believes the investigation is an abuse of power.

What the submission demonstrates is that the resignation of former president Jacob Zuma as president was not a clean break. That the continuities after Nasrec are to be taken seriously and that the hollowing out of state by the different actors involved in state capture, that hollowing out continues and the ghost of Jacob Zuma continues in the kind of work we see being done by the public protector.

What Pravin Gordhan's entire submission does in terms of the so what question, is that it gives us a sense of how this thing [state capture]operates. You have got quite different centres, a multi-polar state capture project if you will, that happens.
