Gordhan expected to meet with Mkhwebane over Ivan Pillay retirement package
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has been subpoenaed to meet Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane next week.
The Public Protector is investigating Gordhan in relation to the early retirement package offered to former South African Revenue Service (Sars) Deputy Governor Ivan Pillay in 2010.
This is contained in a submission to Justice Raymond Zondo in the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture by Gordhan.
According to Gordhan’s statement, the complaint against him was lodged on 18 November 2016 by Lebogang Hoveka, a then speechwriter in former President Jacob Zuma’s office.
Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Oupa Segwale, spokesperson for the office of the public protector, says Mkhwebane is not pursuing this matter now.
This matter has been going on since 2016 and the public protector has been investigating this matter. And there are processes that happen before you start calling people in for interviews.Oupa Segwale, spokesperson for the office of the public protector
You gather evidence, you research the law, you collect documents and at the time that you are ready, you start then issuing invites.Oupa Segwale, spokesperson for the office of the public protector
