Telkom 947 cycle challenge road closures update

Wondering which roads to use during the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge?

Don't fret, the organisers have made available all the routes closed on Sunday, November 18.

It is Joburg’s biggest cycling event and it does have a huge impact with full road closures on the route. It is best to prepare in advance so you don’t get caught up in the subsequent traffic.

Alexia Poulos, Primedia Broadcasting Group Events Manager

The route starts and ends at Century Property’s Riversands Commercial Park, just off the R511 in Fourways. It meanders through the streets of Joburg from Steyn City Boulevard through to Cedar Road, Witkoppen Road, up Jan Smuts Avenue and the M1 South; finally bringing cyclists home via the R55, through Summit Road; and back to the finish along Riversands Boulevard.

Road closures aside, it is a wonderful opportunity for the cycling supporters and residents of the City to plug into the amazing vibe we create on race day. There are a couple of spectator zones where you, your family and friends can have a great day out supporting the cyclists and connecting with your community. We’d love to see you there.

Alexia Poulos, Primedia Broadcasting Group Events Manager

Free parking has also been organised at Riversands Commercial Park for supporters who would like to experience the start and finish of the race.

947 always looks forward to host this event, which showcases the energy and infectious spirit of the City and its people. We have a massive cycling community in Joburg and we are incredibly proud to give these cyclists a day where they can truly own the city’s streets, safely. If you love cycling, 947 loves you.

Thando Makhunga, 947 Station Manager
