New draft White Paper on STI to prepare SA for fourth industrial revolution

Twenty years after the adoption of the first White Paper on Science and Technology (DST) in 1996, the Department of Science and Technology is in the process of developing a new draft White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), which has been approved by Cabinet.

Preparing for the fourth industrial revolution is at the heart of the new paper.

Minister of Science and Technology Mmamoloko Kubayi was joined by business, labour and academia to discuss the draft policy on Friday at the University of Pretoria.

Kubayi joined Celement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala Show to share details on the paper.

We are making several proposals in terms of getting us ready, but what is exciting is that during our dialogue - we have a specific breakaway that is looking at the fourth industrial revolution.

We will be able to say all of those engagements will be incorporated into our document and be ready for the country.

On the issue of fourth industrial revolution, they are saying we need start looking at policy to prepare for the re-skilling of our society, especially young people.
