Interviews for the new National Director of Public Prosecutions are underway at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed a panel, led by Minister Jeff Radebe, to shortlist and interview candidates and make three recommendations to him.
Eyewitness News senior reporter Barry Bateman is attending the interviews and has this to say about those who have been at the hot seat so far.
Bateman says first to be interviewed was current acting National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Silas Ramaite.

He was speaking in abstract terms. He said a lot but he didn't tell us why he is the right candidate for this position.— Barry Bateman, EWN senior reporter
