It’s difficult to understand what the EFF’s gripe with the former finance minister is…

While Floyd Shivambu was shouting outside, Pravin Gordhan inside the building clearly illustrated how the politics of distraction works…

State Capture damaged South Africa significantly, said Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan at the Zondo Commission in Parktown on Monday.

Honest public servants were replaced by compromised and incompetent people, said Gordhan who described State Capture as “systematic”.

Former colleagues of Gordhan testified that he played a critical role in protecting Treasury from former President Jacob Zuma, including his proposed nuclear deal.

There were a lot of bad deals in the pipeline which required Treasury’s approval…lots of terrible stuff… and Pravin either stopped it, or he delayed it.

Gordhan played a pivotal role in the fight to stop Zuma corruption and looting. Throughout that period we were under siege from Zuma, nuclear, Eskom… he had to defend Treasury and the country’s credit rating.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) picketed outside the state capture commission on Monday afternoon with EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu vowing to “bring him down and expose all his shenanigans”.

Shivambu accused Gordhan of unduly benefiting his daughter Alicia Gordhan’s companies by awarding them government tenders.

He also accused Gordhan of having a bank account in Canada when he was at Sars into which he supposedly told people with tax problems to make deposits.

The EFF hasn’t provided any evidence to back up these allegations.
