ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu held a press briefing on Thursday in which he reiterated the ANC’s support for President Cyril Ramaphosa rectifying his earlier statement with regards to a Bosasa payment that went towards the payment of his presidential campaign.
EWN parliamentary correspondent Babalo Ndeze says Mthembu stated that the ANC applauds Ramaphosa for showing sincerity and correcting himself.
He emphasised how the rules of Parliament make provision for people to correct statements.
He says it is nothing new that Members of Parliament can correct themselves when they do make mistakes, unintentionally and unwillingly. But if you do mislead Parliament intentionally and willfully that is a different matter and there could be sanctions.— Babalo Ndeze, EWN parliamentary correspondent
Mthembu said that there hasn't been any indication from opposition parties that they will take the matter further, reports Ndeze.
He says no party has brought forward a substantive motion so that the matter can be taken forward and be investigated... So it looks like the explanation has been accepted...— Babalo Ndeze, EWN parliamentary correspondent
