ANC Parliamentary Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu has questioned why the party has remained silent over damning accusations levelled at Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan by the EFF.
Julius Malema's party picketed outside the state capture commission this week where Gordhan was giving testimony.
They claim Gordhan's daughter benefitted from government tenders and other contracts as a result of her father's position - a claim he has vehemently denied.
These accusations have largely been met with silence by the ANC, something Mthembu says is troubling.
If any organisation would attack Gordhan as the EFF did, I would have also expected my organisation to - not on the third day, not on the fourth day but on the same day - defend our member.— Jackson Mthembu, ANC Parliamentary Chief Whip
A media briefing was scheduled on Thursday but that was postponed.
Mthembu adds that only the ANC as an organisation would be able to explain why they have not really spoken out in support of Gordhan.
We cannot allow anybody to furiously attack a member of the ANC with false information. And persecute a member of the ANC wrongly and falsely and we are just quiet.— Jackson Mthembu, ANC Parliamentary Chief Whip
