Politicians' attacks on journalists very worrying says Sanef's Adriaan Basson
There have been numerous attacks on journalists by politicians in recent times.
These attacks include Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema telling journalist Pauli van Wyk 'to go to hell' on Twitter and his attacks on different journalists at his press conference outside the Zondo Commission.
Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, News24 Editor and Sanef Treasurer Adriaan Basson says he thinks the media has reached a stage where it is going to have to think very hard about the way forward.
Specifically, on the road to the elections next year and at our council meeting on Saturday, we discussed the threats and intimidation of journalists, in the wake of Julius Malema's address last week outside the Zondo Commission.Adriaan Basson, News24 Editor and Sanef treasurer
He singled out journalists by name and some of these journalists were also intimidated over the weekend and one of them was accosted at a shop while she was doing her shopping.Adriaan Basson, News24 Editor and Sanef treasurer

He adds that these attacks are not only about what politicians say but also about the enabling environment that emerges from what they say.
