Cape Town well on its way to becoming a 24-hour city

Chairperson of Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID) Rob Kane says the city is working itself to becoming a 24-hour city like New York and Cairo.

He says Cape Town has come a long way to making the CBD as welcoming and safe for its citizens to enjoy during the day as well as at night.

The CCID employs about 620 people who keep the city safe and clean around the clock.

We are finding that the public is increasing the number of hours that they work and play in the city.

Rob Kane, CCID chairman

There's a lot of activity going on and people are very happy to be in the city. We just seem to be attracting more and more to the city which is a good thing.

Rob Kane, CCID chairman

Kane says the issue of safety and security is an ongoing matter that needs to be improved every now and then.

All of our security guards have body-worn cameras. There are very few cities in the world where security guards have body cameras on them.

Rob Kane, CCID chairman

When you look around the city...you will realise there are cameras in most parts around the city.
