Minister Gordhan and EFF lay criminal charges against each other

The battle between Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will play itself out in court.

Minister Gordhan laid three criminal complaints against EFF leader Julius Malema and his deputy Floyd Shivambu at the Brooklyn Police Station on Monday morning.

They are complaints of crimen injuria, criminal defamation as well as incitement to commit violence.

Sometimes we forget that there is a limitation to that right and one of the limitations in that clause in the Bill of Rights is that the right to freedom of expression does not extend to incitement of imminent violence or advocacy of hatred based race or religion.

If you look at the timeline from July up to the pinnacle on 20 November 2018, it just reached a point where Minister asked can he just sit back?

Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema has tweeted that they will be opening a criminal case against the Minister on Tuesday.

The charges will include money laundering, corruption, racketeering, fraud, contravention of Intelligence Act and, Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act and perjury.
