Immigrant parents must follow due processes to register children with DHA

If a migrant child is born in South Africa he or she assumes the status of the parents.

The child does not automatically become a citizen of the county according to the law.

Acting Director General at the Department of Home Affairs Thulani Mavuso says after parents have registered their children with the respective embassies; they can go to Home Affairs to apply for a permanent residence for the child.

If a parent of a particular child is a permanent resident in the Republic of South Africa that child must also follow the status of the parents and become a permanent resident.
