The African National Congress (ANC) says it wants embattled city manager Moeketsi Mosola suspended based on allegations of corruption and not for what it believes are the Democratic Alliance and Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga’s 'personal' reasons.
Msimanga said Mosola had failed in his duties and had committed acts of misconduct.
The ANC, EFF and PAC made up the numbers that halted Msimanga’s attempt to issue a notice of suspension to Mosola in a council meeting on Thursday and voted for deferment of the matter to January 2019.
Mosola is accused of disregarding procedures and unlawfully granting engineering firm GladAfrica a multi-billion-rand contract.
Speaking to Karima Brown, ANC Tshwane regional chairperson Dr Kgosi Maepa insists Mosola must be suspended for his alleged role in the GladAfrica tender.
We said the city manager must be suspended on the issue of corruption, why do you have to divert and suspend him because he insulted Solly in a letter? We are not interested in how Solly feels about it.— Dr Kgosi Maepa, ANC Tshwane regional chairperson
