Questions about Malema's family living on cigarette maker Mazzotti's estate

Julius Malema's wife and children live in a luxurious house that is owned by alleged tobacco smuggler Adriano Mazzotti.

According to sources, the house is situated in an opulent Hyde Park estate that is allegedly owned by Mazzotti who is a director of cigarettes-manufacturing company Carnilinx.

Mazzotti, who has had a long-standing relationship with the EFF leader, has a public profile going back several years. Mazzotti made an R200, 000 donation to help the party register to contest the elections.

Mazzotti has been described as a self-confessed cigarette smuggler and has been accused of evading taxes. He’s consistently denied the allegations and insists that he is fully tax compliant.

We have been told that everything is above board, that there is a lease agreement through a leasing agent and that Mantwa Malema pays a market related rental for the property. It has not been disclosed what rental she pays, but it is suggested that is a token amount to legitimise the arrangement between the two parties.

Barry Bateman - EWN reporter

Malema declined to answer specific questions, instead all he would say is that he has moved to Cape Town, where he has been given a residence in Goodwood by the state.
