[VIDEO] First female Ballon d'Or win marred by sexist twerking comment

23-year-old Norwegian and Lyin football striker Ada Hegenberg won the inaugural female football award at France's Ballon d'Or on Monday.

French DJ Martin Solveig playing music on stage asked her if she twerks as she was accepting her award.

Solveig has received much backlash on Twitter and from the sporting community. Two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray said this is "Another example of the ridiculous sexism that still exists in sport."

Solveig apologised and said it was "meant as a joke" but many just do not see the funny side.

As journalist Marina Hyde wrote in the Guardian, Solveig apologised “to anyone who may have been offended”, which as everyone knows is the boilerplate non-apology".

French footballer Kylian Mbappé's stunned expression sums it up.
