ANC refutes allegations that it encouraged SABC board resignations
The ANC has denied allegations that it encouraged the collapse of the board of the SABC in order to create a rudderless public broadcaster come 2019 elections.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says the party has always encouraged its members in the portfolio committee ensure stability at the public broadcaster.
We would not in any way seek to influence the workings of the board and the decisions they make because we believe that the public broadcaster must be allowed to discharge their mandate without fear or favour.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson
However, Mabe says the ANC has always had a firm stand against retrenchments, especially given the current economic climate.
We said that there should be other better ways to deal with the situation than taking the route of retrenching employees.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson

We always came out as the ANC that we do not support retrenchments.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson
Mabe says the ANC cannot influence the decisions of the board.
We can't influence the board of the SABC on how they can undertake their ways and that is why we found reports that suggested that we would've influenced the resignations of the board quite worrisome.Pule Mabe, ANC spokesperson
