[WATCH] Ramaphosa says Bathabile Dlamini has raised the bar

President Cyril Ramaphosa has defended Minister of Women in the Presidency Bathabile Dlamini, saying she has raised the bar in her ministry.

Ramaphosa was speaking exclusively with Xolani Gwala on 702 and Cape Talk on Thursday night on a wide range of issues.

Ramaphosa says that he would be able to fire Dlamini if he had a reason to and dismissed claims that she was 'untouchable'.

Bathabile Dlamini is the Minister of Women and she is doing a good job in advancing the cause of women in our country.

She's really raised the bar, raising issues of how the country should start dealing with gender-based violence issues that we face.

She is doing a fantastic job, particularly now in this 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

In September, the Constitutional Court ordered Dlamini to pay 20% of the legal costs in the social grants payment debacle.

The court found that Dlamini was untruthful about her role in the crisis and asked the NPA to decide if she should be prosecuted for perjury.

Ramaphosa says he's finalised the affidavit which he will file to oppose the DA's court bid calling for Dlamini's removal.

When asked whether his Cabinet, including Dlamini, is a reflection of his leadership principles, the president said:

The Cabinet is committed to root out corruption. Yes, I am proud of them.
