Two Gauteng mayors before ANC Integrity Commission for hampering VBS probe
Two mayors in the Gauteng municipalities have been sent to the Provincial Integrity Commission by the ANC over the VBS saga.
Gauteng ANC spokesperson Tasneem Motara says it is following the same process that the Limpopo PEC underwent when it fired mayors involved in the VBS scandal.
There is a forensic investigation that is currently underway in the municipalities because we were meant to understand that there are officials who are responsible for this.Tasneem Motara, Gauteng ANC spokesperson
The latest report that we received is that officials are frustrating the investigation. We then took a decision to take the two mayors to the integrity commission for them to explain what exactly is going on.Tasneem Motara, Gauteng ANC spokesperson
Motara says they are hoping that the Integrity Commission will be able to ascertain whether there was some kind of political instruction which led to these officials becoming involved with VBS.
Motara has also confirmed that the Emfuleni Council will elect a new mayor on Friday.
The Mayor of Emfuleni resigned on Wednesday and council will convene today.Tasneem Motara, Gauteng ANC spokesperson
