[LISTEN] Expert tips to avoid splurging unnecessarily over the holidays

With the festive season in full swing and some bonuses paid out, Sanlam Personal Finance's Danelle van Heerde shares some mindful tips on how to manage your money.

The head of Advice Processes and Tools says honest conversations need to be had in households to avoid spending on unnecessary items or experiences.

Sometimes you assume you have to have a big meal or have to go out but you don't necessarily have to do those things. Make a list, decide what it is you want to do and decide how you are going to manage your money over the festive season. Experiences with family this time of year is what you really want to invest in.

It is a lot more about awareness of what you are spending your money on. We also need to think about what is going to come in January and February.
