Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found that sporting goods supplier Sedgars paid for Fikile Mbalula's R680,000 holiday to Dubai in December 2016 when he was serving as sports minister. Mkhwebane shared these details during a media briefing on Wednesday.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed these findings.
AfriForum has threatened to pursue a private prosecution against Mbalula if the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) does not pursue the matter.
Acting ANC Spokesperson Dakota Legoete says it is necessary for his party to respect the findings of the Public Protector.
That is why as the ANC, we have welcomed the findings and going forward we will interrogate the findings and check its implications.— Dakota Legoete, Acting ANC Spokesperson
He adds that they will not pronounce innocence or guilt on Mbalula until they have interrogated and studied the findings and therefore the matter has not yet been finalised.
We will go through the report and check its implications.— Dakota Legoete, Acting ANC Spokesperson
