[LISTEN] Understanding compassion fatigue

Have you ever been unable to connect with yourself or suffered from a lack of empathy for others?

You might have compassion fatigue.

Clinical psychologist, Dr Dimakatso Maboea describes the condition as a state of numbness.

It just means you have dispensed all the compassion you have and have used all your reserves and have nothing to give. It has got nothing to do with feeling psychopathic or not caring or evil, it's just that you are depleted.

You are going to get a combination of what we see with people who suffer from depression and post traumatic stress disorder so you are going to get a mixture of those. With some depression you see a lot of hopelessness.
