Daniel Du Toit appointed as new Group Chief Executive Officer for Denel

Daniel Du Toit has been appointed as the new Group Chief Executive Officer for Denel.

The ministry of public enterprises and the Denel board made the announcement on Thursday.

In a joint statement the department and board said Du Toit brings with him a wealth of experience in the defence and manufacturing sectors and a solid career track record that will be of value to the Denel group.

Karima Brown spoke to Denel Board Chairperson Monhla Hlahla for more details on the appointment and Denel's turnaround strategy.

Denel for many years appears to have struggled with the manufacturing side of the business, it became very clear that some global experience is a critical need for Denel. We just want to make sure that we can compete gloably and stop wasting money and Daniel came very strong on that technical know how.

Monhla Hlahla, Denel Board Chairperson

He is exceptionally experienced. What needs to happen now is the context under which we operate - to give the correct environment for us to absorb as much as we can from him so that the entire business can move on to the second layer of the frontier of manufacturing.

Monhla Hlahla, Denel Board Chairperson

It will give the market great confidence that e actually went out to look for specific experiences.... it is going to take the board, existing management and a culture change to make sure that we can make the best use of the input that we are going to get from him.
