KZN ANC members welcome Ramaphosa despite factional differences - analyst

8 January marks the 107th anniversary of the African National Congress. Activities to celebrate the day are scheduled to take place in KZN.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is addressing community members in Masinenge in KZN as part of his build-up to the 2019 elections and anniversary celebrations.

EWN reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo says the president told community members that this is the year of jobs and that it is important for ANC leaders to lobby for the youth.

He said the usual narrative, that the ANC is the only party that is capable of changing the lives of the people.

Ngcobo says Ramaphosa has challenged the perception that he will not be welcomed in KZN because of the particular faction within the ANC that is dominant in the province.

Ramaphosa told the crowds that KZN is the home of the ANC. The party will also launch its election manifesto on Saturday.

She says there are speculations that Zuma's supporters might boycott the celebrations on Saturday which is expected to pull over 85 000 people.

But at this stage preparations are on track and they are saying they are looking forward to good attendance.

Political analyst Xolani Dube says he doesn't think the euphoria around January 8 activities will overcome the factionalism and problems within the ruling party.

He doesn't believe there will be negative acts against the president as many people don't want to jeopardise the opportunity to be in the Provincial or the National Parliament.

I think they will be too kind because there will be too much at stake if people were acting recklessly.
