Trade union unhappy with Denel's new white CEO hire

The Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (Limusa) say the appointment of Daniel du Toit is "disgusting and very irresponsible".

Limusa's Siboniso Mdletshe says it is concerned that there are only white males and Indians in strategic positions at Denel, despite there being black people who qualify for those positions.

We raised those concerns and Denel dismissed our claim saying there is no such (people).

Mdletshe says an investigation was conducted which found that indeed there were too many whites and Indians in strategic positions.

The investigation report recommended that Denel should stop appointing whites and Indians but nevertheless Du Toit was appointed as the new group chief executive.

We are saying that in terms of qualifications, there are people who can lead Denel as CEOs. There were people who came up front and those people had adequate qualifications.

Siboniso Mdletshe, Limusa

Our view is that Denel was not supposed to do what they did especially after those recommendations that are talking about white males.
