Food Lover's rat saga: 'Not ideal for food stores to leave food uncovered'

There was outrage after a rat was found nibbling on a salad at Food Lover's Market in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The rat was helping itself to a salad in the store's displayed salad bar case. Food Lover's has responded that it called in pest control to deal with the problem.

Is it ideal for food stores to leave food out in the open without a cover?

Food Scientist Nigel Sunley this is not something the owners can apologise for and move on, but is rather a serious health matter.

From a hygiene point of view, it is not a good idea.
