How to make a successful transition from school to a tertiary institution

It's the time of year when many matriculants are making the transition from learning in a school environment to dealing with a whole new set of challenges at a tertiary institution.

The founder of Next Chapter, Tshepang Laurence Malatsi spoke to Joanne Joseph about dealing with this life change.

He says the challenges students face include coping with increased academic demands, financial constraints and peer pressure.

Malatsi says the changes students have to deal with should not be underestimated.

We need to look at a holistic picture. It's not only about you moving to a different area, it's about you changing your lifestyle, it's about you changing your culture, it's about you changing your identity.

Malatsi points out that there are a range of support services available to students, from advice on changing courses to help with emotional problems.

Go and ask about the support services that are there in your career development.
