NW DA leader told Schweizer Reneke seating was partly due to language barriers

The DA in North West says it welcomes an investigation to get to the bottom of the segregated seating of pupils at Schweizer Reneke Laerskool.

An image was widely circulated online showing black and white pupils sitting at separate tables in a grade R classroom this week.

A teacher at the school has been suspended, pending the outcome of that probe.

The DA's North West Premier candidate Joe McGluwa spent the day at the school on Thursday amid protests outside the premises.

He says he met with North West Education MEC Sello Lehare, the principal and the chairperson of the school governing body.

McGluwa claims he was told that the seating arrangements were in part due to the language barriers between the pupils at the Afrikaans medium school.

At the same time, McGluwa says both black and white parents he spoke to insist that this was an isolated incident.

It's a very unfortunate incident... As the DA, we do not condone what is happening.

We've been told that this never happens at the school under normal circumstances.
