Mashaba wants answers for Gauteng housing grant cut

Gauteng mayor, Herman Mashaba says the reduction of the provincial government's decision to cut the grant by R180m was "pure political sabotage".

Mashaba says since the DA came to power in Gauteng this is the third time the Provincial Government has taken a decision to sabotage his administration.

They are actually on this trajectory to ensure that we don't deliver services to our people.

Herman Mashaba, Joburg Mayor

Mashaba says he has written to the Department of Human Settlement, Office of the Premier David Makhura, as well as President Cyril Ramaphosa, questioning the decision to the housing grant but no answers were provided.

He says agreements were signed with contractors and constructions have begun, which makes it difficult to understand the grant cut.

The last option is to write to the National Treasury says Mashaba.

I'm really hoping that some sense will prevail with National Treasury to see the illegality of this action, in fact, this is more than an illegal act it is purely a political exercise.
