In addition to their meal allowance that they get every month, they will be getting that amount to take care of their of their personal needs.

Kagisho Mamabolo, NSFAS spokesperson

Mamabolo also responded to complaints that universities are demanding registration fees from students who have qualified for NSFAS funding.

Those universities need to explain why they are doing so because it is against policy.

Kagisho Mamabolo, NSFAS spokesperson

A NSFAS qualifying student approved by NSFAS should be allowed to register without paying registration fee.

Kagisho Mamabolo, Nsfas spokesperson

We are quite aware of institutions that are saying that. The administrator has been engaging vice-chancellors whose institutions have put registration fee and some were happy after the engagement.

Kagisho Mamabolo, NSFAS spokesperson

NSFAS will not be accepting applications directly from students who have recently passed matric and would like to be funded to study, says Mamabolo.

He says provisions will be made for applications made by institutions on behalf of students who were admitted late.

If you walk into an institution and get accepted, the institution will assist you to access NSFAS funding only after you have registered.

Kagisho Mamabolo, NSFAS spokesperson

Mamanbolo says only the students who come through that system will be funded but there will be no direct application of funding by students.
