[LISTEN] Lumkile Mondi weighs in on the president's manifesto speech

Yesterday at the ANC manifesto launch, president Ramaphosa addressed more than 80,000 supporters at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The president has admitted that the party has made several mistakes in the past, and that they are determined to rectify them.

Political analysts, Lumkile Mondi who is a Senior Lecturer at Wits School Of Economics and Business Science weighed in on the president's manifesto speech saying, after 25 years into democracy, the ANC's economic record is very poor, mainly looking at the unemployment rate and our education system that is in shambles.

The ANC needs to take an introspection and reflect. The party has got a very poor record for economic development, particularly black participation in the main stream of the economy. The president's speech yesterday was nothing new.

Speaking to Africa on the Weekend Breakfast, Mondi said a lot of the poor record in our economy can be attributed to the Zuma years. The Zuma led government had a very negative relationship with foreign affairs.

The ANC really needs to step up. A lot of the black emerging middle class are distancing themselves from the ANC and I hope that the trend that we saw in the 2016 municipal election can grow where there is an emergency of people looking for alternatives to vote.
