The Western Cape local government says the Karoo has always been dry and hasn't been relying on surface water for years.

This follows reports that Laingsburg, Beaufort West and now Kannaland municipality are in desperate need of help as they are running dry, according to Gift of the Givers.

Local government spokesperson, James-Brent Styan says it has asked Gift of the Givers not to put out statements like that, raising a false alarm.

James-Brent Styan, Western Cape local government spokesperson

We have been all hands on deck in every one of these communities for the past three not a single one has run out of water.

James-Brent Styan, Western Cape local government spokesperson

So we frankly don't see where these alarming statements are coming from.

James-Brent Styan, Western Cape local government spokesperson

Styan says despite this Gift of the Givers has done so many good things for the communities for which government is grateful.

There is no bad blood.
