An inquiry into Advocate Nomgcobo Jiba and Advocate Lawrence Mrwebi’s fitness to hold office at the National Prosecuting Authority started in Centurion on Monday.
EWN reporter Barry Bateman following the proceedings says President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed retired Constitutional Court Justice Yvonne Mkgoro to chair the inquiry and make recommendations.
This inquiry goes back several years and it relates to prosecutorial indiscretions of Jiba and Mrwebi such as the decision to withdraw charges against former head of crime intelligence Richard Mdluli.— Barry Bateman, EWN reporter
It also relates to Jiba's decision to authorise the racketeering charges against former KwaZulu Natal Hawks boss Johanne Boysen who challenged that decision in the high court in KZN.
The commission will look at their fitness to hold office in relation to their handling of various high profile and controversial cases.
