Msimanga opens up about quitting as mayor and the controversial DA billboard

The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Friday announced that Mayor Solly Msimanga will be stepping down from his position as Tshwane Mayor next month to allow him to focus on his Gauteng Premier candidacy.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Msimanga says he was never pushed and was not leading a divided caucus.

The caucus that I led is a caucus that is very united. We have dealt with every issue that has been brought to our attention.

Msimanga says the DA is moving its head offices to Gauteng and will be putting a significant amount of resources in the campaign to win the province.

Therefore if the party is going to be putting all its resources into Gauteng, obviously it is going to require the person who is going to be the face of that campaign, to be full time on the ground.

This will take the majority of my time, so we didn't want to short change the people of Tshwane that is why we made the move for me to resign as mayor.

When asked about their controversial billboard, Msimaga says the DA has heard what the families are saying.

We are not tone deaf, we hear what the families are saying and we will be engaging with them to explain what it was that we were trying to achieve with the billboard.
