The world's billionaires are 12% richer than a year ago while the bottom 3.8 billion people are 11% poorer, says Oxfam.
São Paulo, Brazil

The 26 richest people have wealth equal to the poorest 3.8 billion, according to Oxfam.

According to an Oxfam report, prepared for the World Economic Forum in Davos, billionaires around the world saw their combined wealth increase by 12% in 2018.

The most impoverished 3.8 billion people - half of all humanity - saw their wealth decline by 11% in 2018.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos – the world’s richest person – has a fortune worth R1.56 trillion ($112 billion).

Bezos’ net worth is 100 times larger than the entire health budget of Ethiopia (population: 105 million).

Hiking the taxes of the wealthiest people on Earth by 0.5% would raise enough money to for educate 262 million children and provide healthcare that would save the lives of 3.3 million people, according to Oxfam researchers.

South Africa, Namibia and Botswana are among the most unequal societies in the world.
