Cape Town mountain blazes under control, firefighters to monitor flare-ups

Firefighters continue to monitor Signal Hill and Lion's Head for any flare-ups following the raging fires that burned parts of the mountain on Sunday night.

The spokesperson for the Western Cape local government, James-Brent Styan says the fire is currently under control.

The major problem is that we had a terrible drought, the worst drought we can remember, so the veld is extremely dry... which burns very quickly especially with the strong winds that we are seeing.

Even when you put out the fire it is possible that it could flare up again.

According to Styan, there are no reports of any damage to property but a man's been seriously injured in the Signal Hill and Lion's Head fires.
