The commission of inquiry into the PIC has been told that former CEO Dan Matjila had a corruption case opened against him by a former employee.
Forensic investigator Frans Lekubo was hired to investigate the source of malicious reports against Matjila and the leaking of confidential information.
That's when he discovered that the PIC’s head of IT security, Simphiwe Mayisela, had opened a corruption case against Matjila without his knowledge.
The case was linked to allegations that Matjila used money from the PIC for a loan for his girlfriend, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.
It was also discovered that Mayisela had unlawfully intercepted Matjila’s emails in addition to opening a case.
Lekubo told the inquiry that a whistleblower known only as James Nogu had also been sending emails to the PIC board about Matjila.
The identity of Nogu was never verified and it remains unclear if he and Mayisela are the same person.
