Thereasa May instructed to renegotiate Brexit deal

British lawmakers have instructed Prime Minister Theresa May to renegotiate the Brexit treaty with the European Union.

The European Union’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, says, however, the EU’s united over the Brexit deal and is standing by the existing agreement.

UK correspondent, Gavin Grey’s on the story.

This is after all a continuing negotiation, we haven't left yet.

There are a number of different options now forward and I think one might be ok, you leave the deal as it is but then you have a legally binding addition that might be updated regarding the Northern Ireland border which might satisfy both sides.

The EU seems to be making a concession on the political declaration though, that deals with the future relationship between the UK and the EU. Grey says this may give May some room to manoeuvre.

Possibly, but the problem is that the Brexit agreement is legal document and therefore legally binding but this declaration is simply one of intent and not legally binding and that is the uncomfortable bit...
