They cry racism to shut down political debate, says Cape Party leader

Lesser known political movement, the Cape Party has rubbished claims that it is a racist and white supremacist group.

The Cape Party's founder, Jack Miller, says his is the only political organisation that still believes in a rainbow nation.

When they want to shut down political debate, they call you racist. These are unfounded claims.

Jack Miller, Party founder - Cape Party

The party, which is determined to have the Cape become independent from South Africa, made headlines this week for a bizarre campaign video.

The party filmed a parody video mocking the slaughter of a sheep on Clifton 4th Beach back in December, using a watermelon instead.

Miller insists that eating watermelons with friends is one of many Cape traditions, along with granadilla popsicles.

We decided we'd respond with a tongue-in-cheek parody on the slaughtering of the sheep, but we thought we'd do it in good old Cape tradition, sharing a watermelon with our friends.

So what does the Cape Party stand for?

According to Miller, at least seven other organisation have started calling for Cape independence in the last two years.

He says this a sign that secession from South Africa is a sensible proposal in the current political climate.

We were the only political party to be talking about Cape independence since 2007.

People are seeing the direction that the country is going with land expropriation without compensation... and Cape independence is actually sounding pretty sensical.

Miller maintains that the Western Cape would have four times more revenue than it currently has if it was granted independence.

We're calling for greater decentralisation of political and economic policy-making down to the provinces.

The leader says the party lacks voters and exposure because it doesn't have nefarious funders like other mainstream parties.

If we had the support of VBS Bank, or any of the funders that support the mainstream parties like the DA or ANC, we'd probably be in power by now.
