South African Police Services (Saps) spokesperson Kay Makhubela says it is not clear what happened and how those prisoners escaped.
The truck was transporting prisoners to the high court and when the prisoners were meant to go be escorted to the prison cells, two prisoners jumped the building and escaped.

He adds that this is the second escape in recent times, however, they managed to trace those suspects that escaped previously.
We will trace those that escaped today and we will make sure that they are re-arrested.

Makhubela adds that the escapees are dangerous criminals who were facing murder charges and were both meant to be sentenced.
No stone will be left unturned in terms of our investigation and whatever information that we get will be used to ensure that they are re-arrested.
