Concerted efforts to pull him off high profile cases, testifies Booysen

Former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss Johan Booysen gave explosive testimony at the Mokgoro Commission of Inquiry on Monday.

This inquiry is looking into advocates Nomgcobo Jiba and Lawrence Mrwebi's fitness to hold office.

Booysen told the inquiry how internal disciplinary and criminal cases against him were part of a campaign to force him out of the police and halt high profile investigations.

Booysen added that he was leading the fraud and corruption case against Thoshen Panday who was a business partner of former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Edward.

EWN reporter Barry Bateman, who is following the commission, says Booysen's revelations were already in the public domain but having his account at the inquiry, emphasises the difficulties he was up against as the head of the Hawks.
