State Capture Inquiry

Bosasa-linked employee made bribery videos 'to protect himself'

The Zondo Commission of Inquiry into state capture on Tuesday heard how a catering company called Equaltrade4, used to deliver cash money to Bosasa to enable it to pay for bribes.

A former employee of Equaltrade4, Gregory Lawrence told the commission that he used to deliver money for Bosasa. The money would be delivered under the guise of Bosasa ordering catering equipment and alcohol, then it would pay via EFT and instead of delivering goods, would deliver money.

According to EWN reporter Clement Manyathela, Lawrence's testimony was accompanied by videos of him arriving at Bosasa's offices to deliver the money.

You could see cash stacked in boxes and that is the cash that would be kept in the vault as explained by Angelo Agrizzi. This is the money paid to this company through EFT and they would pack it in boxes and deliver it to Bosasa.

Lawrence says this was a money-saving scheme for them because it was expensive to take money to the bank.

Lawrence told the commission that he took the videos because he knew that somehow he could one day have a fallout with Bosasa and they could somehow pin this on him.

In the video, you could hear them saying we have just delivered R900 000 in cash. He took those videos so that he can protect himself one day.
