News24 editor Adriaan Basson has testified at the State Capture commission about the intimidation and threats he received after he started writing about corruption at Bosasa.
Basson told the commission how he received calls telling him to stop writing negative stories about the company.
Speaking to Ray White, Basson explains what prompted him to appear before the commission.
I was contacted by the commission to ask if I can make an affidavit about this intimidation. Now, ordinarily, journalists don't like to give evidence in court cases or commissions but in this case, I did feel morally obliged to tell how I was intimidated and threatened by Bosasa.

I received calls during the day and late at night from people identifying themselves as Bosasa employees telling me to stop writing nonsense, they used stronger language than that.

I was later told that my cell phone number was distributed inside the company and employees were told to call me and threaten me because I am going to cost them their jobs.

Basson states that the second phase of intimidation happened while he was on holiday.
He says it was clear that the person who called him had his personal information and it was very detailed.
