The annual address prior to the opening of Parliament will mark the beginning of the last session of the fifth democratic Parliament.

Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says it is all systems go for the Sona tomorrow.

It is a culmination of months of hard work between Parliament and there are two arms of the state. We are definitely ready for the last state of the nation address tomorrow.

He adds that everything is on course and the presiding officers will later on Wednesday give an account of the preparations that have gone into the Sona and the state of readiness for tomorrow.

Mothapo says the budget for the Sona has been cut by almost 74% from previous years.

In the last five years, Parliament has been cutting drastically the budget for the State of the Nation Address. You remember that in the fourth Parliament, the address cost around R8 million and because we have done away with a lot of things this year to be cost-effective. The Sona this year will cost us a lot less.
