Taxify could have permit pulled after claims of passenger stabbings - JP Smith

Mayco member for Safety and Security in the City of Cape Town Alderman JP Smith responded to the case of a Taxify driver allegedly stabbing two female passengers in the northern suburbs.

The father of one of the girls explained how the girls ordered Taxify in the wee hours of the morning from a night out. The driver stabbed one of the women who managed to jump out of the car. He drove the second woman to an isolated area and allegedly stabbed and robbed her of her wallet and cell phone.

An ambulance and ADT security vehicle that was past rescued them.

They are currently recovering in hospital.

Smith says Taxify is responsible for what its drivers do even though it refers to them as independent contractors.

It is totally unacceptable. If you are offering a service, vouching for the fact that the service is reliable and you are telling people to use, you are responsible for what your independent contractor do.

Smith says, based on the incident and Taxify's lack of response to the matter, he will be engaging with MEC for Transport Donald Grant to look into a revocation of their operating permit.

Taxify should be facing an application for revocation of their permit.... maybe they are not a fit and proper company to hold an operating permit.
