Hoërskool Driehoek deaths 'one of the saddest moments in education sector'

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga has described the death of four learners at Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark, as one of the saddest moments in the education sector.

Minister Motshekga attended the funeral service for Marli Currie, who was one of the pupils killed when a walkway bridge collapsed last Friday.

Eyewitness News reporter Thando Khubeka was at the funeral and says the minister felt the learners had a bright future ahead of them.

She has described last week's tragedy as one of the darkest moments in the education sector.

She says there is no pain more than that of losing a child as a parent.

The minister says she believes this was a freak accident as the school is well-built. She says she believes what happened on Friday, was an unfortunate accident.
