[LISTEN] 'Krotoa: Eva van de Kaap' back at Artscape

The play about Krotoa Eva brings to the stage a more current version of events, along with the history of the young servant girl in the 1650s who went on to become Jan van Riebeeck’s interpreter and served as a bridge between the Dutch and the Khoi.

'Krotoa: Eva van de Kaap' aims to connect the dots between what happened at a 17th century Cape fort and what is still happening in the modern world today.

Bianca Flanders plays Krotoa and shares more about the production.

The whole play takes place in a film set. So we get to see a more current version of events - so what people are feeling about Krotoa, Jan and colonisation. Then we get to jump back in time and see the scenes between Krotoa and Jan Van Riebek.

Bianca Flanders, Actress

She says playing this significant historical character is a big responsibility.

My nerves are shattered, I keep lying to myself and saying that I am fine but there is definitely a very strong sense of responsibility because it is something you really want to do with a lot of integrity and truth.
