'Parliament should have proper inquiry into Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office'
The justice portfolio committee on Parliament decided to hold off on an investigation into Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office, and the committee is sitting again on Tuesday.
Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentary chief whip John Steenhuisen says he is not sure why the members of parliament are sitting.
As they expressed themselves quite explicitly at the end of last year that they have dismissed my complaint. I imagine today is just a formalisation of that. I regard that as a dereliction of duty and I think that Parliament failed in its duty not to conduct an inquiry into the fitness of the Public Protector to hold office.John Steenhuisen, Parliamentary chief whip - DA
I think that at the very least, Parliament should have a full and proper inquiry into the fitness of the public protector. Giving the gravity of findings from various courts against the public protector.John Steenhuisen, Parliamentary chief whip - DA
